Nowadays, Li-ion batteries are widely favored for use in numerous indoor and outdoor gadgets due to their high charge storage capacity. They are extensively employed in today’s portable devices because of their compact size, efficiency, and superior energy density compared to other battery types.

However, one significant drawback of Li-ion batteries is the necessity for continuous monitoring during their charging and discharging cycles. Failure to monitor these processes can lead to reduced battery life and diminished charge storage capacity. If a Li-ion battery is discharged below a certain voltage range, it risks permanent damage, while overcharging can potentially lead to explosions.

To address these issues, battery protection and charging circuits, like the one described, can be utilized. This product employs MOSFETs for monitoring tasks to safeguard battery cells from overcharge, over-discharge, and short circuits.

Precautions:
1. Before installing the protection board, ensure the batteries are well-matched (voltage difference between each battery should not exceed 0.05V, internal resistance difference should be within 5mΩ, and capacity tolerance less than 30mAh). A smaller voltage difference between batteries enhances the protection board’s effectiveness.

2. Connect batteries in parallel first, then in series, and ensure correct welding (use nickel spot welding for 18650 batteries or solder for other types). Avoid screwing connections as this can damage the protection board IC.

3. When replacing an old battery with a new board, verify the battery’s condition beforehand. Ensure it is in normal operating condition before purchasing.

4. During installation, use a multimeter to check if the voltage across each series is uniform. Significant differences exceeding 1.0V may indicate issues such as reduced range, starting and shutdown problems, or shortened charging times, indicating potential battery core problems. Protection board failures can manifest as the inability to charge the battery or inability to discharge it even with voltage present.
