Carbon fiber tubes offer a versatile alternative to aluminum or steel tubes across various projects. They provide superior strength and lightness compared to their counterparts of equal weight. This 10mm roll-wrapped carbon fiber tube is primarily constructed using high modulus (T700) unidirectional prepreg carbon fiber, strategically oriented to maximize strength in the lateral axis.

Roll-wrapped carbon fiber tubes exhibit greater strength in general use compared to “pultruded” tubes, which have fibers aligned in the same direction.

However, it’s important to note that the use of unidirectional fibers and the emphasis on lateral strength means that the tube may not be as robust across its diameter as it is along its length. Therefore, it should be utilized in a manner that minimizes unnecessary crushing forces across the tube.

Roll wrapping refers to the manufacturing process employed for these tubes. Initially, prepreg carbon fiber is layered around a mandrel in multiple layers. Subsequently, the assembly is spiral-wrapped with heat-shrink tape before undergoing oven curing to complete the reinforcement process.
