The Arduino MKR1000 is designed to provide a practical and cost-effective solution for makers who want to add Wi-Fi connectivity to their projects with little prior networking experience. This board is built around the Atmel ATSAMW25 SoC (System on Chip), which is part of the Smart Connect family of Atmel Wireless devices tailored for IoT projects and devices. Combining the capabilities of the Zero and the Wi-Fi Shield, the Arduino MKR1000 is perfect for those aiming to create IoT projects with minimal networking expertise.

The ATSAMW25 SoC in the MKR1000 consists of three main components: the SAMD21 Cortex-M0+ 32-bit low-power ARM MCU, the WINC1500 low-power 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi module, and the ECC508 Crypto Authentication chip. Additionally, the MKR1000 includes a Li-Po charging circuit, enabling it to operate on battery power or external 5V power, with automatic switching between power sources.

The MKR1000 offers similar computational power to the Zero board, a rich set of I/O interfaces, low-power Wi-Fi, and a Crypto chip for secure communication. Its compatibility with the Arduino Software (IDE) for code development and programming, combined with its compact form factor, makes it an ideal choice for battery-powered IoT projects.
