The CJMCU 64 Bit 8×8 RGB LED Driver Development Board is a large board featuring 64 WS2812 RGB LEDs arranged in an 8×8 matrix. Each LED can draw up to 60mA, with the entire matrix capable of drawing over 3.5 Amps at 5 Volts. It is recommended to use a 5V 2A power supply, though for most users, 1-2A of current per panel is sufficient.
The board includes two 3-pin connection ports for wiring. Solder wires to the input port, providing 5VDC to the +5V and ground pins. Connect the DIN pin to your micro-controller and create a common ground from the 5V power supply to the micro-controller/Arduino.
Furthermore, you can chain multiple panels together. For the second panel, connect the DIN connection to the first panel’s DOUT, and connect the ground pins together. Power both panels with 5V. It’s important to note that when using four or more panels, you may encounter low RAM issues, especially with an Arduino Uno, and may require a 5V 10A power supply for multiple panels.
Each stick is equipped with a single data line using a timing-specific protocol, requiring a real-time micro-controller with an 8MHz or faster processor such as an AVR, Arduino, PIC, etc. Solder pads on the back allow for connecting wires or breadboard pins, and two mounting holes enable secure attachment to various surfaces.
