DC 3-5V X9C103S Digital Potentiometer Board Module for Arduino

Introducing the DC 3-5V X9C103S Digital Potentiometer Board Module designed for Arduino enthusiasts. This module features X9C103 digitally controlled (XDCP) potentiometers, comprising a resistor array, wiper switches, control section, and non-volatile memory.

Controlled via a three-wire interface, the wiper position on the potentiometer is adjustable. The resistor array consists of 99 resistive elements, with tap points accessible to the wiper terminal at each element’s end.

Operation of the module involves three key sections: the input control, counter and decode section; non-volatile memory; and resistor array. The input control section functions akin to an up/down counter, decoding the output to activate a single electronic switch connecting the resistor array to the wiper output. This counter’s contents can be stored in non-volatile memory for future use.

The resistor array includes 99 individual resistors connected in series, with electronic switches transferring potential at each point to the wiper. Notably, the wiper behaves like its mechanical counterpart, remaining stationary at fixed terminals without wrapping around when reaching extremes.

Electronic switches operate in a “make-before-break” mode during wiper transitions, allowing multiple taps to connect to the wiper simultaneously. Upon power restoration, the stored wiper position in non-volatile memory is recalled, maintaining continuity in operation.

With an internal charge pump facilitating a wide voltage range (-5V to 5V) at XDCP terminals, the module offers the convenience of a single power supply. However, designers should consider the typical charge pump noise (20mV at 850kHz) when crafting application circuits.
