Digital voltage typically operates in two states, being either off or low at 0V, or on or high at the peak voltage, often 5V. In the context of digital voltmeters, these devices convert analog signals into a series of pulses, with the number of pulses being proportionate to the input signal. This conversion is achieved through various A/D (analog-to-digital) conversion methods.
As for the features of a digital voltmeter:
- It can simultaneously display voltage and current in different colors – red for voltage and blue for current. Importantly, the current is measured in the negative rail.
- The voltmeter requires an external power supply and includes reversed connection protection to prevent damage.
- The ground wire for the testing end and the power supply terminal is consolidated into a single wire, simplifying the setup. The voltmeter refreshes quickly at about 500 milliseconds per cycle.
- Equipped with a built-in shunt, the voltmeter comes with voltage and current calibration potentiometers, allowing for precise adjustments.
- Applications of this digital voltmeter include battery monitoring in automotive, electric cars, motorcycles, and other products that require simultaneous measurement of voltage and current.
