The Dual Monster Moto Shield VNH3ASP30 DC Motor Driver 2x14A (Peak 30A) represents an upgraded iteration of the Ardumoto motor driver shield, replacing the L298 H-bridge with a pair of VNH3ASP30 full-bridge motor drivers. This enhancement strengthens the support circuitry, enabling the board to efficiently drive a pair of high-current motors. The VIN and motor output terminals are tailored for 5mm screw terminals (not included), facilitating easy connections with larger gauge wires.

The transition from the L298 H-bridge to the VNH3ASP30 in the Motor Driver Shield Monster Moto signifies a significant advancement. This motor driver shield is now equipped with dual monolithic high-side drivers and two low-side switches, providing a robust solution for a wide range of automotive applications.

The VNH3ASP30 integrates STMicroelectronics’ proprietary VIPower M0 technology, allowing efficient incorporation of a true Power MOSFET with intelligent signal/protection circuitry on the same die. The VIN and motor output terminals are designed for 5mm screw terminals, streamlining the connection process for larger wires. The direction of each motor is controlled by INA and INB, while the PWM pins toggle the motors on or off.

For the VNH3ASP30, the current sense (CS) pins output approximately 0.13 volts per amp of output current, providing valuable feedback on the motor’s current consumption. This Motor Driver Shield Monster Moto is a powerful and versatile solution, designed to handle high-current motors with enhanced efficiency and connectivity features.

  1. When using this board in extreme high-demand applications it may be necessary to improve thermal performance with a heat-sink or fan and to solder the wires directly to the board instead of using a screw terminal (in addition to the myriad other complications present in a high-current system) However, when using the board at currents up to 6A the chips will barely become noticeably warm. 
  2. VNH3ASP30 is the updated version of VNH2SP30.
