The eSun PETG 3D Filament combines the advantageous qualities of both ABS and PLA filaments, offering users an easy-to-print material with high toughness and heat resistance. PETG filament also boasts good layer adhesion and a slight degree of flexibility.
PET-G (Polyethylene terephthalate glycol-modified) is a robust and water-resistant thermoplastic known for its shiny finish. Widely recognized for its use in the production of soda bottles, PET has gained popularity in 3D printing due to its versatile properties that bridge the gap between ABS and PLA.
Printing with PETG is nearly as straightforward as with PLA but requires slightly more attention. Strong bonding between layers necessitates squishing the first layer similar to PLA, as excessive material flow can cause nozzle clogging. PETG exhibits excellent layer adhesion, resulting in sturdy and flexible prints compared to the brittle nature of PLA. However, PETG may not adhere well to other materials, and glue may not provide sufficient grip.
Another notable feature of PETG is its glass-like transparency in neutral colors, offering opportunities for vibrant translucent prints. PET-G can be printed with or without a heated bed, with minimal warping when using adhesion aids like 3DLAC. While printing at 65 degrees Celsius on a heated bed is recommended for easy print removal, 245 degrees Celsius is the optimal extrusion temperature for best results. Printing with PETG typically emits no discernible odor, but adequate ventilation is still advisable.
