The HC-06 module features a user-friendly interface, including pins for VCC, GND, TXD, RXD, and an LED status output pin. The microcontroller can utilize the LED status output pin to determine the Bluetooth connection state, and the KEY pin on the slave side is inactive.
The LED provides a visual indication of the Bluetooth connection status: flashing denotes no connection, while a steady light signifies an established and active Bluetooth connection. The backplane incorporates a 3.3V LDO, accepting input voltages within the range of 3.6 to 6V. The module draws approximately 30mA during unpaired states and around 10mA when paired. It’s crucial to ensure the input voltage stays below 7V.
Operating at a 3.3V interface level, the module can be directly connected to various microcontrollers like SCM (51, AVR, PIC, ARM, MSP430, etc.). Even 5V microcontrollers can be connected directly without the need for a MAX232.
The module supports full-duplex serial communication with an uncomplicated setup, making it user-friendly. Once paired, no in-depth knowledge of Bluetooth protocols is required. It exclusively supports a communication format with 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity – a widely used and standard format. Other communication formats are not supported.
In the absence of an established Bluetooth connection, users can configure the baud rate using AT commands. These commands also enable the setting of device names, matching passwords, and power-down parameters for saving. Following a Bluetooth connection, the module automatically transitions to transparent mode for seamless communication.
