Hiletgo FT23RL FTDL Mini USB to TTL Serial Converter

The USB to TTL serial adapter utilizes the highly reliable FTDI FT232RL chipset, offering a convenient method to link TTL serial devices to a PC via a USB port. This adapter caters to various applications, including:

– Microprocessor programming such as ARM and AVR
– Interfacing with computing hardware like routers and switches
– Serial communication with devices like GPS units
– Serial terminals on platforms such as the Raspberry Pi

Unlike conventional USB to TTL serial adapters, this adapter supports both 5V and 3.3V operation. Users can easily select the desired voltage by adjusting the jumper on the board as indicated.

The primary connector comprises six pins:

– DTR (Data Terminal Ready): Output used for flow control
– RX (Receive): Serial data reception pin
– TX (Transmit): Serial data transmission pin
– VCC: Positive voltage output, controlled by the jumper. When set to 5V, it provides a 5V output, and when set to 3.3V, it offers a 3.3V output.
– CTS (Clear To Send): Input utilized for flow control
– GND (Ground): Reference voltage or 0V

For typical applications, the following pin connections are recommended:

– Connect RX on the adapter to the TX pin on the target device
– Connect TX on the adapter to the RX pin on the target device
– Connect GND on the adapter to the ground terminal on the target device

The VCC pin is suitable for powering small devices such as custom circuits. However, it should not be connected when the target device has its power source, as this could lead to damage to both devices.

Please note that in 5V mode, the maximum current draw on the VCC pin is around 500mA, while in 3.3V mode, it is approximately 50mA.
