The FriendlyElec mini-router, known as NanoPi R2S or “R2S,” features dual Gbps Ethernet ports and is designed for edge computing. Its compact size allows it to fit seamlessly into a custom metal case measuring 60 x 61 x 27.5 mm.
Powered by Rockchip’s quad-core A53 RK3328 SoC, the NanoPi R2S delivers robust performance with a default frequency of 1.2GHz. It comes equipped with 1GS of RAM (optional 2GS), dual Gbps Ethernet ports, and supports dynamic frequency scaling through the RK805 PMU chip. Additionally, it includes a USB 2.0 port for connecting to 4G modules, HD cameras, WiFi modules, and more.
Boasting TF card booting support, the NanoPi R2S is compatible with operating systems like FriendlyWrt, UbuntuCore, and Armbian. It enjoys strong community support, particularly from OpenWrt, which includes it in mainline versions based on Linux-5.4 (LTS). The device is powered via a USB Type-C connection, making it an excellent choice for applications requiring compact design and robust networking performance.
