Recently, Pixy upgraded their smart camera from version 2.0 to 2.1, introducing several enhancements:
Wider Field-of-View: The horizontal field-of-view has increased from 60 degrees in version 2.0 to 80 degrees in version 2.1. This allows users to capture more of the environment per image. However, the new lens with the wider field of view introduces some spherical distortion.
Replaceable Lens: The M12 lens mount enables users to replace the lens with different options.
Adjustable Focus: The M12 lens also features adjustable focus, allowing it to focus on objects at virtually any distance, including as close as 0.25 inches.
Reduced Chromatic Distortion: The new lens minimizes chromatic distortion at the edges, a notable improvement over the slight chromatic distortion seen in the previous version.
Less Pixel Noise: With an F-stop of 2.0 compared to the previous lens’s F-stop of over 3.0, the new lens gathers more light, resulting in better signal quality and less noise in ambient light conditions. This enhancement leads to improved detection accuracy.
Other aspects of Pixy 2.1, such as the software, firmware, and feature set, remain unchanged. However, the new version is slightly larger, with an increase of 0.25 inches in both height and depth.
Additionally, new algorithms enable Pixy 2.1 to detect intersections and “road signs” that can instruct a robot to perform actions such as turning left or right or slowing down. Pixy 2.1 can process these commands at 60 frames per second, facilitating fast robot responses.
