Introducing the SHIELD-EKG-EMG, an innovative device enabling Arduino-compatible boards to capture Electrocardiography (ECG) and Electromyography (EMG) signals. This shield opens up exciting possibilities for biofeedback experimentation, allowing users to monitor their heartbeat, log pulse data, and explore gesture recognition by analyzing muscle activity, as showcased in this project.
The SHIELD-EKG-EMG functions by converting analog differential signals (the ECG/EMG biopotentials generated by muscles) from its CH1_IN+/CH1_IN- inputs into a consolidated stream of analog output data. To facilitate digital processing, the output signal needs further discretization. This is typically achieved through a dedicated Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) embedded in the Microcontroller Unit (MCU) of the baseboard, such as OLIMEXINO-328, OLIMEXINO-32U4, OLIMEXINO-STM32, and others. This integration enhances the capability for advanced digital signal processing and analysis.
