The SN74HC164N is an 8-bit parallel-out Serial Shift Register featuring AND-gated serial inputs and an asynchronous clear (CLR) input. With gated serial inputs (A and B), users have full control over incoming data; a low signal at either input prevents new data entry and resets the first flip-flop to a low level at the next clock (CLK) pulse. When one input is high, it enables the other input to determine the state of the first flip-flop. Data at the serial inputs can be altered while CLK is either high or low, provided the minimum set-up time requirements are met. Clocking occurs on the low-to-high-level transition of CLK.
