The Teensy is a compact and feature-rich development board designed for easy use on a breadboard. Each Teensy 3.6 is pre-flashed with a bootloader, facilitating programming through the onboard USB connection without the need for an external programmer. Programming can be done in C using a preferred program editor, or users can install the Teensyduino add-on for the Arduino IDE to write Arduino sketches.
The Teensy processor has USB access and can emulate various USB devices, making it suitable for projects involving USB-MIDI and other Human Interface Device (HID) applications. The 32-bit, 180MHz processor offers additional features such as multiple channels of Direct Memory Access (DMA), several high-resolution Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs), and an I2S digital audio interface. It also includes four separate interval timers and a delay timer. All digital pins support interrupts and are 3.3V tolerant.
Despite its capabilities, the Teensy 3.6 maintains a compact size of 62.3mm x 18.0mm, with solder points on a 0.1″ grid for easy integration into breadboard projects. The Teensy 3.6, along with its sibling Teensy 3.5, stands out with a larger form factor, increased speed, and enhanced capabilities, particularly due to the onboard micro SD card port. Key features of the Teensy 3.6 include an upgraded ARM Cortex MCU (180MHz from 72MHz), expanded memory (1M from 256K), increased RAM and EEPROM, and more accessible pins, making it ideal for complex projects. While slightly larger than the Teensy 3.5, the Teensy 3.6 comes at a higher price point.
