Teensy 4.0 boasts an ARM Cortex-M7 processor running at an impressive 600 MHz, featuring the NXP iMXRT1062 chip. This microcontroller, based on the NXP iMXRT1062, stands out as the fastest available today, offering a tenfold increase in speed compared to the Teensy 3.2. The NXP iMXRT1062 operates as a ‘cross-over’ processor, combining microcontroller functionality with the speed of a microcomputer, making it ideal for tasks requiring extensive flash, RAM, data processing, and featuring two full-speed USB ports along with a graphics processor – all available at a budget-friendly price.
When operating at 600 MHz, Teensy 4.0 consumes approximately 100 mA of current. It supports dynamic clock scaling, allowing for speed changes without affecting timing functions such as serial baud rates, audio streaming sample rates, and Arduino functions like delay() and millis(). Teensy 4.0 also introduces a power shut-off feature, enabling the complete deactivation of the 3.3V power supply with a 5-second button press. A coin cell connected to VBAT ensures that the RTC continues tracking date and time even when the power is off.
Remarkably, Teensy 4.0 can be overclocked well beyond its 600 MHz base frequency, offering additional performance capabilities.
