The USB TO UART TTL 5V 3.3V FT232RL Download Cable To Serial Adapter Module serves as a convenient breakout board for the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC, Revision 2. Its pinout is designed to match the FTDI cable, making it compatible with official Arduino boards as well as cloned 5V Arduino boards. Additionally, it’s suitable for general serial applications.
A notable feature of this board is its inclusion of the DTR pin, which replaces the RTS pin found on the FTDI cable. The DTR pin enables auto-reset functionality for Arduino targets when a new sketch is downloaded, eliminating the need to manually press the reset button. This auto-reset capability works with any Arduino board that exposes the reset pin via a 6-pin connector.
The board includes pins labelled BLK and GRN, corresponding to the black (GND) and green (CTS) wires on the FTDI cable. These pins facilitate alignment with your Arduino target.
Featuring TX and RX LEDs, this board provides visual feedback of serial traffic, enhancing usability compared to the FTDI cable.
Designed to reduce the cost of Arduino development and improve user experience, this board ships default to 5V but includes a jumper on the back that allows it to be configured for either 3.3V or 5V (both power output and IO level).
To interface with the Pro Mini Module, follow these connections:
