The 5MP Raspberry Pi 3/4 Model B Camera Module Rev 1.3 with Cable comes with a flexible cable designed for easy attachment to the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B. This compact 5MP camera module is particularly well-suited for small Raspberry Pi projects with limited space – simply boot up the latest version of Raspbian, and you’re ready to start!

Equipped with a high definition 5MP camera, this module excels not only in capturing outstanding photos but also in shooting videos, making it ideal for applications such as drones or CCTV projects. The lightweight camera board opens up possibilities for practical roles, including serving as a hidden camera or as part of a Raspberry Pi phone.

Specifically designed as a custom add-on for the Raspberry Pi, this camera module conveniently attaches to the Raspberry Pi through one of the two small sockets on the board’s upper surface. Leveraging the dedicated CSI interface, it is optimized for interfacing with cameras, providing extremely high data rates exclusively for pixel data.

No adapters are needed! This camera effortlessly plugs directly into the camera port of the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B, streamlining the setup process for your projects.

Hardware Connection:
Utilize a soft cable with a 90-degree vertical connector, positioning it adjacent to the HDMI port. Ensure that the contact side faces the HDMI interface when connecting. Remember to remove the protective film from the lens. Handle bare boards with caution to prevent ESD damage and be mindful of static electricity.

Software:
1. Update RPi firmware and raspi-config for the camera by executing apt-get update and apt-get upgrade.
2. Run raspi-config, choose the camera option, initiate the RPi firmware camera driver, and then restart.

Camera Operation:
Use command-line programs raspivid and raspistill to operate the camera for capturing video clips or images.

Video Clip Capture:
For capturing video clips, use MPlayer for playback.

Network Camera Live Broadcast:
Utilize the nc command (ncat – Concatenate and redirect sockets) to redirect the input data from the camera to the output ports for network redirection. This enables live broadcasting of camera data through the network.

Important Note!!  This module is only capable of taking pictures and video, not sound.
